I think sometimes when you spend a lot of time working on a piece (be it artwork, literature or whatever else), whatever impact it would have on the viewer, you become used to, so it loses its initial punch. As a result I think a lot of artists/creatives in general have a lower view of their work than others... Or at least, I think so, because I adore this piece! The texturing throughout is fantastic, and so is your choice of colours... I love it!
You may not be too proud of the image, but in fact, I really like the fountain, the water effects, and the crystal ball the most. It came out looking amazing! Then there's the fur texture, and the rat's face that really pop. ouo He seems like either a sinister warlock, or a grumpy old rat who's the hero's assistant but not without a bit of snark xD
Aero... your artwork is beautiful, and incredibly detailed. But I know how you feel. However, look at how far you've come. Take pride in how well you push yourself. Look back at old art work and compare with your newer ones. Right now you may feel like you're in a standstill, that you're not ascending or descending, just staying in the middle, not going anywhere; I know that feeling too. But look at how lovely all of your followers are. Look at how much they love your work, and how excited they get when you post something new. As my brother always told me: "You are your worst critic,". I'm sure you'll dig your way out of it, a good artist always does. Chin up, we're all rooting for you.
Your purpose for this was making something awesome! Sometimes for me, I have to take a break from my art when it isn't going the way I want it to. By the next night, I see a way to make it look much better than what I originally planned. Even just a few hours away from the piece can bring insight for me. I don't know if you've ever done it, but it's just a thought. I have to note though, that this piece could totally be a scene from TMNT. I'm just saying.
You know, i'd murder for even half the skills you have. Kiana, have a lot of natural talent. You have every right to feel down about your stuff because it's not where you want it to be, but damn girl take some credit every now and again at least. Half of us out here are WISHING AND TRYING THEIR HARDEST TO BE AS GOOD AS THIS. Frankly, it scares and intimidates me when you say you "give up halfway through". If this is giving up halfway through, I would probably put down my pen for a good long while to reflect on what you'd think your 100% is. You clearly underestimate yourself, and it depresses me to see that you aren't happy with your art.
I hope you do get out of this rut. I'm just some random watcher, but your art always brings a smile to my face and is a joy to look at (no matter what it is). Hope you feel better soon, and keep your head up!
How are you even disappointed with this? The shading and lighting is B E A U T I F U L. I really love the expression and the anatomy and it looks really good. Also that damn fur is magnificent. The background and stuff is just so great. How do you even background? How do you do it? I know it's a normal thing to go through phases like this with your art where you just don't like it, I'm going through one myself now, but I really don't understand how you can't at least be a little bit proud of this I mean look at it, it's pretty freaking amazing.
